Dr. Shenara Sexton believes in the power of a healthy self image and has committed her career to helping her patients become the best versions of themselves through a positive outward appearance. Dr. Sexton has been in practice for 14 years and joined Avail Dermatology in 2020.
Dr. Sexton completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia as a member of the honors program. At the Emory University School of Medicine she was awarded a Douglas-Satcher Clerkship at the University Hospitals of Cleveland. She completed an internship and dermatology residency at Emory and was awarded a National Institutes of Health (NIH) basic science fellowship.
During residency, Dr. Sexton published and presented on numerous topics, developed a lecture series for the dermatology section of the physician assistant training program, and received the Georgia Society of Dermatologists Abele Residents’ Symposium Award and the National Medical Association John A. Kenney Residents’ Symposium Award.
Dr. Sexton is a board certified Dermatologist and Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a member of the American Society of Dermatological Surgery and National Medical Association. Her focus has always been to provide patients with the most up to date and evidence based treatments for dermatologic conditions. She has a specialized interest in the treatment of acne, hair and scalp conditions and skin cancer care.
Dr. Sexton lives in Atlanta with her husband, Alonzo, who is an orthopedic surgeon, and their two sons. She enjoys travel, is an abstract painter, and serves on the board of the Georgia Museum of Art. She is also a member of the 2017 class of Leadership Georgia and served as a program chair during the 2018 program year.
